BMW Comfort Access Door Handles: How to Tell If Your Car Has It

Short answer: if you can unlock your BMW by touching the inside of the door handle with the key in your pocket, it has Comfort Access, and you need a Comfort Access handle. The factory option code is 322. Standard and Comfort Access handles are not interchangeable.

How to tell if your car has Comfort Access

  1. Try it: with the key in your pocket, grab the handle. If the car unlocks, you have Comfort Access.
  2. Look at the handle: many Comfort Access handles have a small grooved lock area on the outer surface.
  3. Check the option code: a VIN lookup lists factory options. Look for 322 Comfort Access.

Why the handles differ

Comfort Access handles contain capacitive sensors and an antenna with a wiring connector. A standard handle has no electronics, so it will not provide keyless entry and the connector will not match.

Other things to match

  • Position: front and rear handles can differ, and some listings fit "front or rear" on one side.
  • Color: exterior handles are painted to match. Our listings note the paint code when we know it.
  • Chrome or Shadowline trim on some models.
